Tooting my own horn...

I won an award!  

For this photo

I'm not one to really toot my own horn, but I had to share.  I won First Place in the Sports Photo category in the college level for this photo from the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) in our region (which is basically the mountain west region).  It will now compete nationally in September against other winners from other regions so we'll keep the fingers crossed.  I don't really expect it to win because there are other amazing sports photographers out there, but it's always fun to be a part of something like that.  SPJ is a huge deal.  Most people in the journalism world are a part of SPJ and compete regularly for awards from them.  

Photojournalism has been an amazing road for me.  I loved being on the field, court, or front row of any action.  While photojournalists don't really get paid squat, they get to experience many amazing things first hand that most don't.  I was able to live that life for a year and a half and have now moved on full time to the portrait side of photography and I'm having a great time.  I will always cherish my time at BYU's Daily Universe and the opportunities it provided me.  Great, great memories.  From almost being trampled by the BYU football team while at the University of Mississippi, to being spit on by Mitt Romney while at a rally outside of Hires Big H in Salt Lake.  Thanks!

So I'm going to toot my own horn here for a second. I won 3rd place in the sports photo category from the National Newspaper Association! On a national level! It was for this photo of Jackson Emery last January when they played Fresno State.

The lack of posts!

This isn't like me at all! I haven't put a blog post up for almost two weeks! You'd think that since I'm going to school for photography that I would have an abundance of images to share with you, and I do, except this semester I'm 100% film! I spend a lot of time in the dark room these days. I have some great black and whites that I need to scan in and post, I just haven't had any time.

I'm going to Miami in a week and a half for a photography trip so I should have some amazing photos for your viewing pleasure. Until then, hang in there.

The Rolleicord

Meet the Rolleicord! I have a small collection of old cameras and this is my newest addition. My grandpa knew that I collected cameras and gave this to me because it had been laying around his house and had no use for it. I don't think I've ever been this excited for something that was 60 years old! I'm looking forward to getting some film for it and seeing how the pictures turn out!

So if you or your Grandpa have any old cameras that are laying around and are just going to donate them to the DI, think of donating it to my collection instead. It will have a much better home than the metal shelves of the DI!

BYU Photography!

I recently found out that I got accepted to the Photography program at BYU! I honestly didn't think that was going to happen, and we are way excited. Thanks for everyone so far and their willingness to allow me to take pictures of them, and hopefully I'll be able to work with a lot more of my friends and family as I'm sure I'll need models for projects. Thanks for all of your comments and opinions as to what pictures I should have used for my portfolio (see previous post) because it worked!!

I'm Still Around

Just wanted to let the three or so people who regularly check my blog that I'm still around. I have been so busy with school starting last week, work, and of course, BYU football that I haven't pulled the camera out for weeks. It's unfortunate and I will be changing that this weekend. So come Monday, there should be some new pics for your viewing pleasure! Go Cougs!

YES!!!!!!!!

I thought this was a great pic. I personally think it's a crying shame that BYU isn't getting enough credit for this win. The penalty didn't decide the game, this block by Jan Jorgensen did. By the way, Jan Jorgensen is in my Seminary Teaching Class at BYU and I'm glad that I finally will be able to muster up the courage to talk to him and "thanks for blocking that kick." And then I will go back to my desk and feel real cool for a second, and then, seconds later, feel overwhelmingly nerdy.

We got a new computer!

If you were one of the two people that regularly check this blog (My mom and myself), you may have been wondering where have I been the last two weeks. Well, we have had a lot of computer problems that as of tonight have been cleared up because we bought a new iMac! It's a great little machine and I feel lucky to have it. Our other computer had been beaten up by Ava pretty bad. It was a laptop and so it was prone to more damage than most other computers. One time I found Ava standing on the laptop and when I told her to get off, as I was running to pick her off of it, she started to jump on it as fast as she could. Anyway we will be back in business with the blogging this week for your viewing pleasure so stay tuned!
